BA or BS in History
History students at UMSL learn information retrieval and organization skills with a strong emphasis on clear and effective writing and oral exposition. With these skills, UMSL history graduates pursue a wide variety of careers in education, business, law, banking, library science, and the foreign service. Moreover, a growing public interest in regional history has created opportunities for historians in museums, historical sites, archives, and historic preservation organizations.
General Education, 42 credit hours. Courses used to fulfill the social science or state requirement may not be taken from courses in the major.
History Major, 33-45 credit hours in History courses
- At least 15 credit hours in American, European, and World History
- 3-9 credit hours at the 2000-3000 level
- 6-12 credit hours at the 4000 level
- 5 credit hours in senior seminar, which must be taken at UMSL.
History majors must earn at least a C average in courses for the major.
The History minor is also available in the online Bachelor of Liberal Studies.
